When Icarus Fell

Pinned in the ever-widening gap between rural and urban America, an ambitious local politician attempts to deliver a renewable energy grant to his district. But his appetite to climb the political ladder is challenged when a devastating event forces him to confront his personal values and past secrets. A farmer is offered an opportunity to lease her property for this new turbine project as she fights to provide for her seasonal migrant workers. Meanwhile, her lazy son meets a driven intern working to impress her politician boss. A despondent husband and wife struggle with infertility while his job pulls his attention toward the turbine project. When the prospect of having a child gets taken from them, their desperation propels grave decisions affecting the whole community. Raising issues of immigration, political authority, and our connectedness, characters discover the double-edged nature of ambition and apathy as they fly nearer to the sea or closer to the sun.
