Soulful
Soulful is a hip-hop, R&B musical horror film about a women who let a man into her home. Thinking he was from child welfare services, there to take her son away from her, she would open the door, invite him into hell. He would smile politely, survey the cracked paint and roaches on the wall, the well worn couch and young boy in the corner, and thank her for the invitation, proclaiming he felt right at home.
I was a crack addict. I was going to die a crack addict. I was never confused about those facts, even when I found myself pregnant. The devil told me what I already knew. I didnt have to put down the crack pipe. I could smoke my life away. I died giving birth to Rachel. The doctors proclaimed her a miracle. She was healthy. Not a trace of drugs in her system. A motherless child, a soulless child, a child born to the devil could only grow up to paint with pain, spread tidal waves of anger and destroy all beauty around her. Rachel wasn’t a person, she was a force and I died without ever warning anyone.
My sister would go on to raise my son Anthony, neither of them knowing Rachel was alive. Rachel would be adopted by another sister of mine and raise religiously. The two grew up never knowing they were related by blood. By age 6, Rachel’s voice was so lovely, so commanding, she would sing in church solos and be nicknamed...Soulful.
My son, Anthony started his own record label, funded by the drug money of his cousins Malik and Jerome. Soulful made a living singing at weddings, a job that almost drove her insane. She could see the couples future, no matter how ill fated and would use her voice to kill.
Anthony longed to produce a platinum album and sought out the most talented in hip-hop and R&B to serve him. Ultimately, it’s Rachel’s soulful gospel songs that bring my two children together. What happens next broke my heart...and the Devil´s".
