Sears Tower
Every day at the Sears Tower, 104 elevators moving at speeds of up to 1,600 feet per minute transport thousands of workers and visitors to each of its 110 floors.
In 1969, when the Chicago-based global retailer Sears, Roebuck and Co. decided to consolidate its operations under one roof, the only way to accomplish this great feat was to create the world´s largest corporate headquarters. The completion of this structure in 1973 gave the Windy City a new landmark - the tallest building in the world. In this program, trace the history of the Sears Tower, from the initial plans to the company´s financial troubles of the 1990s to the tower´s current status as a multi-tenant office building and major tourist attraction.
Join Modern Marvels for the ultimate behind-the-scenes tour of this engineering masterpiece, and learn how it changed the face of urban architecture across the globe.
