Writer/Director Harold Brodie presents a dark tale of four intertwined individuals in the classic film-noir tale. As her friend is being taken away in an ambulance Theresa (Emmeline Hawthorne) meets John (Christopher Brown), who has just returned after a five year absence. Immediately taken by his charm, the two begin dating. But Theresa is a childhood rape victim who is shy and innocent despite her goth lifestyle, and is easily drawn into John´s world of drugs, alcohol and shady dealings.

Slowly John´s haunted past that Theresa first wanted to refuse becomes undeniable, and it will require the help of her friend Kim (Cal Wilson) and John´s partner in drug dealing Billy (Aaron Ward) to help pull her from John´s spell. But will the price of freedom be worth the escape?

Orphans and Angels is the winner of the Special Jury prize at the 2003 New Zealand Film Awards and the Golden Remi at the Worldfest Houston International Film Festival 2003.
