Le Mans 2005 Review
The Official Review Of The World´s Greatest Endurance Race.
The fans from all over the world who made the trip to the Circuit de la Sarthe in northwest France for the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans were treated to a mix of all the things that make it the world¹s greatest endurance race. Record-breaking performances, returning drivers and teams, along with drivers making their Le Mans debut in sweltering conditions that would definitely prove to be a factor in the raceall this combined with plenty of color and thrills are on this official review.
As was the case last year, another champion driver from the world of rallying made the move to speedway driving. While Colin McRae did the honors last year in the Prodrive Ferrari in the GT1 class, this year Sebastien Loeb took a break from the battles of the World Rally Championship to drive for Henri Pescarolo in the LM P1 class. But the other story in LM P1 concerned Tom Kristensen, driving the Audi R8 for Champion Racing with J.J. Lehto and Marco Werner. Victory would give Kristensen his 6th straight win, and 7th Le Mans title overall, breaking the record of the legendary Jacky Icxx. Kristensen would have plenty of support from 25,000 of his Danish countrymen who were among the crowd of 230,000 racing fans.
In the GT1¹s, it was the return of Aston Martin, under the auspices of Prodrive racing that caught everyone¹s attention. This would mark the first appearance of the beloved marque at Le Mans since 1959. The DBR 9¹s would have a tough fight against the always formidable Corvettes and Ferraris. In other battles, the Lola M6 from RML took honors in the LM P2 class followed by the Courage¹s of Paul Belmondo Racing, and the Porsche¹s from Alex Job Racing grabbed the prize in the GT 2 category.
Besides the race coverage, you¹ll see the teams and their cars during the test weekend (moved up from the traditional time in May to the first weekend of June), and the race week qualifying. Many of the pre-race-activities are featured, such as the Le Mans Legends race which this year features cars from 1935-1955. Plus, bonus in-car footage with Sebastien Loeb, and an interview with racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.
