When you were younger, you may have done abdominal exercises to make your belly flat or to have a '6-pack' of muscles. Although core and abdomen exercises can help manage belly fat, they are important for so much more.

Your core is the center of your body. The stronger the muscles that make up the core, the better off you will be. Made up of your abdomen, lower back, pelvis and hips, your core protects your organs and bones and affects your balance and stability. Core and abdominal exercises can improve posture and balance, protect against back pain and/or injury and reduce your risk of falls. The strength of your core muscles also affects your capacity to lift and the way you walk, stand, squat and sit. When you exercise your core, you also exercise your back and glutes.
