Corpus Christi

A series by Gérard Mordillat and Jérôme Prieur. An inquiery into an enigma named Jesus.

The story of Jesus might have remained that of an obscure prophet from Galilee who died around the year A.D. 30 of our era, crucified by the Romans. But, over the course of several decades, as it was written and retold, his fate was transformed into something out of the ordinary. The man was glorified to the point of becoming Christ - Jesus Christ - and appearing as the Lord resurrected, the Son of God.

Of this story, there are no relics, nor does the slightest image remain. There is only text. The 27 books that compose the New Testament, together with a few rare apocryphal writings, constitute our sole and unique archive in the attempt to reconstruct the way a new religion was born from a schism within Judaism - a religion that turned a new page in the world´s history.

Based on a meticulous - and often vertiginous - examination of each of the details of the Passion as recounted in the Gospel according to John, Jérôme Prieur and Gérard Mordillat have invented a new form of investigation by juxtaposing the points of view and hypotheses of some of the world´s greatest scholars. What we discover in watching Corpus Christi is far from what we may believe and far from what we believe we know.
